Huangshan boasts every sight imaginable under heaven; Huizhou is a stage that sheds light on the dreams of the players. On the south bank of Xin’an River, at the foot of Huangshan Mountain, drawing in the essence of Huizhou Culture, bathed in the breeze of educational reformation, you will find an undergraduate university of applied science --- Huangshan University is emerging in the southern hinterland of Yangtze River, with a foothold in Southern Anhui but radiating throughout the whole of China. The easy drive narrows the distance between Huangshan and the rest of the world, while the unique culture of Huizhou also attracts many visitors from home and abroad. It is through this blend of ancient and modern culture that Huangshan University has formed its own characteristics: transforming from Huizhou Normal College to a comprehensive university.

Expanding over the last 30 years, Huangshan University now consists of 16 schools and 2 departments, and offers 57 undergraduate majors that enroll students from 18 provinces of China. The current full-time undergraduate enrollment is 18,000. The university boasts 2 “National Characteristic Construction Specialty”, 5 “Provincial Characteristic Construction Specialty”, 4 Provincial Experimental Training Centers, 5 Provincial Experimental Model Zones for Talent Cultivation and Innovation, 4 provincial education teams and superior talent training Project.

As a part of the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education, HSU has taken great efforts to build a well-structured and qualified faculty of teachers, among them the proportion of faculty with Masters and Ph.D degrees is 76.9%.

The school continuously strengthens the infrastructure with construction and optimization of the living space, creating excellent conditions for students. At present, the campus covers an area of 1800 acres, construction of 380,000 square meters, a library collection of up to 120 volumes, and all teaching facilities worth RMB 117million.

When roaming on campus, each road is full of a rich humanistic atmosphere, as well as a profound sense of history and tradition.  A full range of green spaces and well lit areas abounds from the outdoors to the inside; from gates to playgrounds; from the campus grounds to its exterior walls. Upholding excellent cultural traditions, the school shows respect for the development of each student’s personality, and focuses on the holistic training of their characteristics.

In 2014, the university was named “Model College in Innovation and Entrepreneurship” by Anhui Province. At the same time, we were invited to join the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan for College Students” and several Innovation and Entrepreneurship projects on National or Provincial level are ongoing.

We are also engaged in the exploration of talent training models that meet the needs of society, therefore was approved to be one of the Anhui provincial level application-oriented universities in 2014. We have introduced a pedagogic concept which focuses on application-orientation and skill training in order to target the training of applied talents and practical and innovative skills. The applied talent training model combines three methods: liberal art education, professional education, and practical and quality improvement.

We have been awarded the title of Anhui College Advanced Unit on Graduates’ Employment 6 times and Anhui Model Unit on Graduates’ Employment 3 times. In 2015, Huangshan University is granted to one of the Model Colleges of Students’ Employment in China. It is a point of pride for the school that many graduates start their careers in Eastern China, serving the development of the Yangtze River Delta as well as other parts of China. Since its establishment, the University has graduated more than 50,000 students. Graduates are noted for their professionalism and their all-around competence in their selected vocational fields.

Huangshan University has established sister school relationships with 28Schools and institutes from around the world, including the U.S., France, Germany, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Dozens of international students and teachers come to the university each year as a result of transfer student, dual degree, and faculty exchange programs. Huangshan University began enrolling international students in 2006, and it was selected as one of the Commissioned Schools able to offer the Chinese Government Scholarship to international students in 2013. Moreover, there is also support from Anhui Government Scholarship for those students who want to apply for bachelor programs.

After many years of experience, the university has developed the following characteristics: enriching students’ social experience through exposure to Huizhou culture; utilizing home-stay programs and summer camps to establish international student educational rapport; and ensuring the quality of international students’ education by means of small-class sizes and one-on-one tutoring.
